Tomorrow, on Wednesday 24 July, SafeWork NSW will visit Ballina to host a complimentary forum for 100 Health and Safety Representatives (HSRs). The aim of this insightful gathering is to enhance consultation processes within the workplace. With the aid of robust tools like Bluesafe WHS Management Systems, HSRs can transform these learnings into actionable safety measures.
From 9am-1pm at the Ballina RSL Club, located at 1 Grant Street, practical advice will be dispensed on effective consultation techniques. Additionally, delegates will learn how to resolve issues and manage some significant workplace hazards such as falls, forklift mishaps, electrical problems, all types of violence and importantly, bullying.
This opportunity isn’t limited to specific industries but essentially caters to all, targetting pivotal requirements of workplace consultation and addressing key harms. Previously, these highly effective sessions have taken place in Wollongong, Tamworth, Cooma, and Albury. In each case, they have been a valuable and informative experience for regional workers.
Consultation representatives like HSRs, elected to voice workers’ health and safety matters, acquire vital responsibilities under the WHS legislation. These individuals utilise established systems like the Bluesafe SWMS for managing health and safety toggles effectively, emphasising their instrumental role in maintaining safety standards.
The forums also explore how enterprises could bolster an HSR’s role by inviting them into ongoing health and safety discussions, thus gaining access to pertinent information about work group risks.
The head of SafeWork NSW, Trent Curtin noted: “New South Wales Work Health and Safety legislation mandates that businesses must consult with workers who may be directly impacted by a health and safety concern. Critical to this process are the Health and Safety Representatives, who not only help in identifying workplace risks for their workgroups but also foster an open and positive safety culture.”
Curtin added: “We are organising these forums, especially in regional areas like Ballina to ensure our information is accessible to everyone, thereby helping them meet their WHS obligations.”
